Delhi University Issues Notification For Teachers

Regarding New Promotion Rule:

Delhi University teachers are now eligible for promotion in accordance with the 2018 Act amendment that governs the University Grants Commission’s recruiting practices. If a promotion isn’t awarded under the 2018 Act, teachers must apply using the 2010 rules.

As per the announcement published on the official website, educators who obtained their PhDs after 2021 will also be included in the 2018 group. The 2010 UGC guidelines did not need a PhD for promotion from Assistant Professor to Levels 11 and 12, or from Associate Professor to Level 13. Promotions for teachers were determined by looking at their point tables, publishing papers, and passing the UGC NET exams.

A PhD is now required in order to become an associate professor, according the 2018 Act. Instructors could pursue promotions up until 2021, at which time the 2010 regulations remained in effect. The same was, however, eliminated starting in 2022.

Teachers who were qualified for promotion after this but did not complete their PhD were unable to apply. As a result, they applied after 2022 and were promoted, albeit without the benefit of increased income for a year or two.

Teachers now have until December 2024 to respond to the petitions submitted, as per the new rule, from the UGC. Teachers are entitled to reapply as soon as they become eligible after accepting a promotion. Teachers are entitled to perks and outstanding balances.
