Located in Bengaluru, Ramaiah Institute of Technology (RIT) is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), which is headquartered in Belgaum. Set up in the year 1962, this autonomous private engineering college has been offering postgraduate and undergraduate programmes since August 2007. Although, VTU awards degrees, the college is free to frame its curricula and schemes of study. The college offers various undergraduate programmes in diverse streams like civil engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, and medical electronics. It also offers MCA and MTech in different streams, in addition to providing research programmes in various departments that lead to PhD/MSc (Engineering).

Students seeking admission in Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Architecture programmes at RIT need to clear the KEA/COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) entrance exam. However, the eligibility criteria for enrolment in BE program at RIT is securing at least 45% in 10+2 examinations with mathematics and physics as compulsory subjects. In addition, students should have passed 10+2 exams with 50% in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, apart from securing 50% in aggregate at the 10+2 level. For admission to the MBA programme, students need to appear for KMAT/CMAT/MAT/PGCET, while for MCA, students should have cleared KMAT or PGCET. For MTech, students need to have cleared GATE or should have appeared for PGCET of Karnataka. The eligibility criteria for admission to MBA and MCA programmes are a 3-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized institute and a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

The department of placement at RIT was established in the year 1997 and ever since it has established strong connections with big players in the industry. In the same year, the college witnessed placements of 172 students, and with each passing year, there has been a rise in the number of recruitment companies. For the 2016 batch, 1892 students received placement offers from 378 companies. The college has a 95% placement average, which is one of the highest amongst educational institutes in India and Karnataka. The average salary package received at the college is 7.66 LPA, while the highest is 50 LPA. In 2018, the college received placement offers from 1284 companies, while in 2017, the number of offers made was 1564.
