Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation is a prestigious institution which excels in the fields of Engineering, Science and Technology for more than Four successful decades. It offers multi-disciplinary academic programmes in various fields of Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, Management , Homoepathy, Arts & Science ,Allied  Health Sciences, Law, Nursing , Physical Education ,Physiotherapy ,Rehabilitation and Behavioural Sciences.Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation traces its origin back to the year 1981 when the ThirumurugaKirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal (TKVTSS) Medical Educational and Charitable Trust was established. Building upon this foundation, the visionary Founder-Chairman, Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, founded the Vinayaka Mission’s College of Pharmacy at Salem in 1982. This institution marked the pioneering step of Vinayaka Missions in the realm of education.

In a significant stride, the year 2001 witnessed Vinayaka Missions attaining the prestigious status of a “Deemed to be University.” This recognition was bestowed by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, with the endorsement of the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. This accolade acknowledged the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, its fulfillment of the highest academic benchmarks, and its provision of exceptional infrastructure, all of which converged to establish its eminence in education. This milestone heralded the transformation of Vinayaka Missions into Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (VMRF), marking its distinction as the 48th University in India.

The academic programmes offered by the university hold approval from the relevant statutory authorities/university, attesting to their quality and relevance. The institution has garnered recognition on the national stage, securing a rank within the 151-200 band in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 under the University Category. Additionally, VMRF(DU) stands accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A grade.

Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) was established in the year 1998 as an affiliated institution under the University of Madras. Later it was affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. In 2004, the institution attained the status of university under the ambit of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (VMRF) – Deemed to be University Salem under sec.3 of UGC act 1956.AVIT is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Council of Architecture (COA), Govt of India. The institution is located on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) in a sprawling 24.11-acre land with a built-up area of 5.65 Lakhs Sq.ft. The institution is committed to impart quality education to the students from different socio-economic backgrounds. The institution offers under-graduate programmes in ten different disciplines including B.Arch and seven post-graduate programmes including Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Full-time (Regular) mode. The institute is also offering five undergraduate programmes and six post graduate programmes in Part-Time (Regular) mode. 

The institution is NAAC accredited. Major programmes were accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).The University has introduced Structured Choice based Credit System(SCBCS) for all the programmes and adopted Outcome based Education(OBE).The Institution has introduced Skill based learning, Research based learning in the Teaching and Learning process.
